Rogue Anti-Spyware Variants

There are several “family resemblances” in the realm of rogue anti-spyware applications. A new version of the same malicious software program will appear, but with a new name. A good example of this phenomenon is what Webroot has classified as the SpywareNO! Family.

The first of these malicious software programs discovered by Webroot was SpywareNO!

SpywareNO!

The first variant of SpywareNO! was SpySheriff. Notice how the “icon” is the same, as are the “feature” buttons, with the false results screen just slightly altered.

Malicious Software

The next variant of SpywareNO! was the rogue program, SpyTrooper.

All of these malicious software programs are essentially the same program, but with a different name.
