Webroot Spy Sweeper Wins Fifth Editors' Choice Award from PC Magazine

Editors Praise Spy Sweeper 4.5 for its Comprehensive Removal Technology and Advanced Rootkit Disabling Capabilities

Boulder, CO., February 06, 2006

Webroot Spy Sweeper, the industry's leading anti-spyware protection software created and distributed by Webroot Software Inc., has been awarded its fifth PC Magazine's Editors' Choice Award for its version 4.5. The prestigious award was announced after the magazine performed an extensive roundup of nine leading anti-spyware applications, the results of which have been published online and are included in PC Magazine's February 21, 2006 issue.

PC Magazine praised Spy Sweeper 4.5 for its Comprehensive Removal Technology (CRT), the most advanced spyware removal technology in the industry, and for its ability to disable the most sophisticated forms of spyware which use rootkit technology to bury themselves deeply within users' PCs.

"Rootkit techniques can hide malware from the file systems," said reviewer Neil Rubenking in the February 21, 2006 issue of PC Magazine. "Spy Sweeper works below the file system level to disable rootkit exploits even when they're not associated with known threats."

Spy Sweeper 4.5 combines CRT with the superior blocking power of behavior-based Smart Shields. CRT uses adaptive recognition processes and proactive spyware research to completely eradicate the most debilitating types of spyware from a PC in a single sweep and restore the machine to a stable, pre-infection state. CRT effectively removes some of the most persistent and powerful spyware programs today, including Commonname, LOP, SurfSidekick, VX2/Abetterinternet/Aurora, and Elite Keylogger.

"We are extremely pleased that PC Magazine has once again recognized Spy Sweeper as the best anti-spyware solution for consumers," said David Moll, CEO of Webroot. "As long as spyware purveyors continue to threaten consumers and small businesses with the most insidious and damaging threats, Webroot will continue to develop the most advanced products to thwart those threats."

Webroot has also received great acclaim for its corporate anti-spyware counterpart: Webroot Spy Sweeper Enterprise, which enables administrators to centrally manage security threats across enterprises of any size. In the last month, Webroot's Spy Sweeper Enterprise has been awarded SC Magazine's 'Best Buy Award' and Windows IT Pro's 'Editors' Choice Award'.

The PC Magazine's Editors' Choice Award is given to the product(s) and/or service(s) that stand out from others in their category.
