Webroot Spy Sweeper Wins Best Buy Award from PC World

"Spy Sweeper proved to be the most effective" - PC World, November 2005

Boulder, CO., October 11, 2005

Webroot Spy Sweeper, the industry's leading anti-spyware protection software created and distributed by Webroot Software Inc., has been awarded PC World's Best Buy Award for its version 4.0. The award was announced after the magazine performed an extensive roundup of the top anti-spyware applications, the results of which were published online and will be included in PC World's November issue.

"Spy Sweeper did the best job of detection and cleanup, removing 100 percent of the BHOs and toolbars embedded in our test PC's browser, as well as reversing all of the browser start- and search-page changes." said PC World in the November 2005 issue anti-spyware roundup.

Like its award winning predecessors, Spy Sweeper 4.0 is designed specifically to proactively protect users from the most malicious types of spyware including trojans, keyloggers, system monitors, and other potentially unwanted software programs. Powered by Smart Shields, the industry's most advanced real-time blocking technology, and Phileas - Webroot's automated spyware research system designed specifically to root out and identify spyware anywhere on the web - Spy Sweeper 4.0 is the only anti-spyware solution with the capabilities to detect and remove the most insidious spyware threats, including CoolWebSearch (CWS), Look2Me, Elitebar and Istbar. Additionally, Spy Sweeper maintains an extremely low false positive rate - approximately 1:1,000,000 - assuring consumers that they are not removing any essential system operations applications or data that are required for normal PC function.

"We are thrilled that PC World has recognized Spy Sweeper as a 'Best Buy' anti-spyware solution for consumers," said David Moll, CEO of Webroot. "Webroot is committed to not only providing users with the best protection against the most insidious forms of spyware, but also educating them about the damaging effects spyware imposes. We commend PC World for sharing this vision and providing their readers with such an in-depth analysis of the spyware problem and the best way to protect against it."

Today Webroot also announced the next generation of Spy Sweeper, version 4.5. Spy Sweeper 4.5 combines the use of Comprehensive Removal Technology (CRT), the most advanced spyware removal technology in the industry, with the superior blocking power of behavior-based Smart Shields. CRT uses adaptive recognition processes and proactive spyware research to completely eradicate the most debilitating types of spyware from a PC in a single sweep and restore the machine to a stable, pre-infection state. The powerful removal capabilities of CRT is complimented by the addition of four new Smart Shields including the ActiveX Shield, which thwarts drive-by downloads that use ActiveX components to disguise their installation, and the Spy Communication Shield, which prevents further spyware infection by blocking incoming and outgoing communication to web sites known to host potential spyware threats and disables spyware programs' ability to re-install during removal. More information on Spy Sweeper 4.5 is available at http://www.webroot.com/.

The PC World Best Buy Award is given to the product(s) and/or service(s) that stand out from others in their category. A full review of Spy Sweeper v4.0 can be found on www.pcworld.com or in the November 2005 issue of PC World, available on newsstands October 18th.
