Webroot Software, Inc., the leading provider of anti-spyware software for consumer, enterprise and SMB markets, today announced the availability of RockSafe™ E1000, Webroot’s first anti-spyware SDK for perimeter-level network protection. The SDK combines the scanning strength of Spy Sweeper Enterprise with Webroot’s extensive spyware definition database to deliver the most effective anti-spyware engine available to the network appliance OEM market.
"Webroot has a long history of providing best-in-class anti-spyware for the corporate desktop environment. While we firmly believe that desktop protection against spyware is a necessity, many of our customers have expressed the desire to deploy a multilayer anti-spyware security solution that includes defense at the perimeter," said Seksom Suriyapa, SVP of business development at Webroot Software Inc. "With the introduction of RockSafe E1000, we are able to provide our customers with that added level of protection from Webroot, a trusted security provider."
RockSafe E1000 provides the core technology for products that monitor traffic at the network perimeter and takes appropriate action when a spyware threat is identified. By scanning both URLs and binaries, RockSafe E1000 technology can be used to provide protection for inbound and outbound network traffic. With the comprehensive software and documentation included in the RockSafe E1000 SDK, Webroot partners can easily integrate spyware protection into their network gateway appliance offerings. RockSafe E1000 offers developers fast track integration while satisfying the requirement of high-bandwidth environments for minimal performance overhead.
RockSafe E1000 leverages the power of Phileas™ V, the next generation of Webroot’s automated spyware research system designed to proactively seek out the most malicious types of spyware and malware, and Webroot’s renowned in-house Threat Research Team. Phileas V includes a multitiered bot network that employs advanced research techniques, like deep packet sniffing. This and other advanced technologies ultimately improve Phileas’ ability to discover new threats more quickly, accurately and efficiently than ever before. Utilizing the data culled by Phileas V, Webroot’s Threat Research Team has created a comprehensive set of network perimeter definitions that can be used to stop malicious threats before they reach the desktop. With nearly 150,000 different spyware traces addressed in this definition set, RockSafe provides a comprehensive first layer of defense.
Webroot has signed an agreement with a best-of-breed appliance vendor to distribute the RockSafe solution to enterprise customers this year. Webroot intends to enable a select group of other best-of-breed vendors to integrate the RockSafe solution.
