SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection

  • 5 out of 5 stars           Sysadmins love Webroot
    11/26/14 12:25:09 MST By regnor
We were looking for a different Antivirus software for our company and discovered Webroot SecureAnywhere on Spiceworks. Our old solution wasn't much effective, both in malware protection and performance, and lacked of a possibility to manage mobile clients. So we were very interested to see how Webroot would perform as a full cloud Antivirus; and we didn't get disappointed. WSA offeres a great protection and the lowest overhead on the market. With the deployment of SecureAnywhere we were both able to lower the hardware impact on our clients, protect them against threats, which other solutions wouldn't have blocked, and finally see what's happening on our roadworker's notebooks. So why will Sysadmins, like me, love Webroot? First of all, the client is easy to deploy and manage. Just install the small 750kb setup file and you're done. There's no need to touch the client again after it's installed as it's always up-to-date thanks to the Webroot cloud network. Software updates are installed automatically and don't require a reboot. WSA will in average require just a few MB RAM and almost no CPU cycles. If you've got a virtualized server(or desktop) environment you'll sure notice the memory saving; considering that our old solution took 200-300MB. Also don't fear AV storms as the scheduled scans are fast(minutes) and don't require much more system resources. Besides that Webroot goes a different way of protecting against malware. Instead of definitions on the client, it uses a big threat database in the cloud. No need to wait till new definitions are downloaded(and no need to throw away storage space), as soon as a threat is discovered you're protected. This also includes threats which were discovered by the heuristics or behavioural analysis on any client in the Webroot network. Of course no Antivirus software can offer 100% protection, Webroot can't and so can't any other vendor. The difference with WSA is that even if some kind of malware isn't detected it will still be handled as an unknown software and every change to the system will get monitored and journaled. If during monitoring, or later based on the cloud database, the file is declared as bad, a rollback is started and all actions will get reverted. This will save us much time as there's no need to do a clean installation after a malware infection. I have to admit that I really got a big fan of Webroot during our trial and deployment, and now after a few months I still can't complain. As a Sysadmin, who is both supporting our company and customers, I can't belive that anyone is using a different product.

  • 5 out of 5 stars           Webroot Rocks!
    11/11/14 6:52:44 MST By CraigB
Before we switched to Webroot SecureAnywhere, I would constantly be working on spyware infected systems in our organization. Spyware is so time consuming to totally remove, and if you want to do it right, you reload the operating system on the infected system. I have also noticed the social engineering that goes into spyware to trick you to click on a link that infects your system...it's quite impressive, but for the wrong reasons. When we switched to Webroot, all the problems stopped. I had my weekends back! Thank you so much for an amazing product that is proactive instead of reactive.
  • 5 out of 5 stars           Best preventive antivirus I've ever seen
    11/04/14 10:51:41 MST By ITAdmin
I can't speak to Webroot's removal capabilities in you already have a virus on your system, but that's partly due to how amazing it is at keeping viruses out in the first place! I have never seen a better detection / prevention antivirus. At my company we were getting a virus every couple weeks using our old antivirus application, but since putting in Webroot nearly 2 years ago I haven't had a single one since. I recommend Webroot to everyone who asks me about antivirus protection. Other positives: it installs extremely quickly, you'll never notice it's running (low resource consumption), and scans are fast. Negative: there is the possibility you will run up against a false positive website (websites flagged as malicious when they are not), but support has always been really quick to whitelist such sites once I submit a whitelist request to them. Overall the positives greatly outweigh the negatives (such as they are) in my opinion. Can't praise it enough.
  • 4 out of 5 stars           Handles Viruses Well, However...
    11/03/14 1:13:46 MST By PhilB
My biggest complaint with WSA Endpoint is how it handles PUAs. It will find them, flag them as bad, but either incompletely remove them or leave them on the machine. When issued commands to resolve the problem, it can to leave traces behind, which it will often find and flag as bad again, repeating the process. Manual removal or the use of an anti-malware program is often necessary to break the loop. That aside, there isn't a lot of feedback as to what's happening on a particular endpoint at any given time. After running a Deep Scan that removes an infection, it sometimes will still report on the Endpoint as having an infection after running another Deep Scan that reports the system is clean. Those are my only two gripes. It seems to do a very good job in protecting the system from more serious threats than PUAs. It's not quite perfect in how it handles PUAs.

  • 5 out of 5 stars           Why Webroot makes me fall of my chair...
    10/10/14 2:20:12 MDT By osigoldman
For many many years I have been recommending and selling anti-virus products to my clients. I have been looking at the ease of installing and maintaining and also how effective the product was. So many times I noticed that an AV product was highly recommended in one test and was not good in another test. Some time ago my company made a mistake and we switched away from a product which we had been using for years. This new AV product was so highly recommended (in the tests), so we went ahead. First of all it was a very large installation file, then a hassle to install it. After a while SEVERAL customers had massive virus infections on their computer. So we went back to our trusted AV solution, which was hated by many tech guys, but for us it was the best of the 'bad' products available. And then I saw a demonstration of Webroot. For years these AV companies have been sleeping and I could not get enthusiastic about their so called new progressive inventions. When I came across Webroot I fell of my chair. After so many years being in the ICT branche they managed to make me super enthusiastic and fall of my chair many times. Why is Webroot so fantastic? - Fast installation, like 6 seconds!! Versus 20-30 minutes which other solutions. - Fast scans, like 2-3 minutes versus others taking 20 minutes - 2 hours etc. - No virus databases to download because Webroot works in a revolutionary new way via the cloud - Super protection against unknown threats - Very handy deployment and admin panel - You don't have to manually reinstall a new version annually!! - The people at Webroot are really great and a pleasure to deal with and very helpful - When I tell my clients about Webroot they want to immediately change to Webroot - Too much to mention... The best thing is you ask for a demo of the Webroot products. Be careful as you might also fall off your chair!!! Disadvantages of Webroot - When installing Webroot on a clients computer I sometimes have to repeat the process, because the client missed the 6 second installation ;-)
