• 5 out of 5 stars           Webroot and CAD
    03/04/15 10:47:38 MST By MichaelLord
There were many reasons that we needed to change to a web base anti-virus system. The main reason was that our traditional program based software was simply not preventing many malware & adware attacks. However the bonus came after moving to Webroot. There was a noticeable improvement in opening time for many files. Especially our CAD files where we saw a time saving of around 19-20% on average. Since moving to Webroot 12months ago there has not been a single "virus" issue on any of our computer.
  • 5 out of 5 stars           Low overhead, easy to use, effective

As a network administrator for the last 25 years, I've seen a lot of different anti-virus programs. The first centralized one was Norton AV Corporate Edition. When that became so bloated that my old workstations would actually freeze up (what's the point of anti-virus software, if it does as much damage as a virus would?) we moved to a lighter-weight solution, from Trend Micro. Trend was great, but they started bombarding me with spam of their own, and their marketing people just didn't know how to leave existing customers alone. It got so bad that I decided to see if there were any viable alternatives out there. I read reviews and decided to give Webroot a try. Boy, am I glad I did! It's the lightest-weight client I've seen in decades (typically, about 13mb of RAM). The central management is great - not as full featured as others, but it's still possible to do everything we, as a PK-8 school district, need. It's so fast that mid-day scans are often not even noticed, and certainly no one complains about them. They usually take literally 1-2 minutes. We've also had good success with trojans, adware, tracking cookies, and other malware being stopped on ingress. So - thanks Trend, for having such over-aggressive marketing that I was pushed to look at Webroot - I'm VERY happy with the product, and will be renewing soon!

I had not heard of Webroot until a friend had mentioned it to me. I then found that my bank offered a trial version of the software. From there I installed it (replacing Trend Micro). The central control panel for management of multiple users and devices proved invaluable to manage a small business. I felt safe that no matter what other users were doing, my network and devices were protected. If I needed to I could see the devices software and virus protection all in a central portal.

After a couple pieces of nasty malware blew through our protection, we knew it was time to find a different security package. We tested SecureAnywhere on a known infected machine, and attempted to infect a clean computer with the malware that caused all of our problems. In both cases, SecureAnywhere stopped the malware in its tracks. Once we deployed it to our production network, SecureAnywhere found a number of pieces of malware and viruses that our previous software completely missed. We're extremely happy with our decision to go with Webroot.

Webroot is the standard to which I compare all other anti-virus software. This is something that I check every year to see who had the best detection rates. Who uses the least amount of ram to run. Lets not forget about the speed in which it takes a program to scan. Webroot has exceeded all of my expectations of what an anti-virus software should be. So I recommended it to my employer and we are running it at my work. Keep up the great work and thanks for keeping me safe from viruses.

We switched to Webroot about 3 years ago. I have got to say that since I have gone with Webroot our virus problems with our traveling staff have nearly vanished. Webroot runs with little overhead and you do not have to download large virus definitions and pattern files anymore. My staff love that their computers sped up when we switched to Webroot. We have had no performance issues and I like the tools and monitoring I can do from the web console. In short I have become the superhero of IT again!

As the IT Manager and HIPAA officer of our organization it is my job to make sure our network is secure and no patient data is leaking to the outside world. We had been using a big brand name product for years (was in place when I inherited the domain) and daily/weekly workstation cleanup was a part of our routine. Dealing with EPhi on our network, we have to act quickly to anything that threatens network integrity by isolating infections and cleaning them up completely before re-introducing a previously compromised system. When using simple definition based protection we found ourselves in a constant battle against zero day threats and even some older threats that, for whatever reason, our previous product didn't protect us against. In 2012 we started introducing mobile devices to our staff and needed a solution to secure, manage and wipe/locate these devices while they are in the field. I took this task as an opportunity to search for a more complete, effective and comprehensive solution (that would also replace our desktop security) and researched available products for several months, testing most to see who had the best. As soon as I started reading about how Webroot works I knew this product was different. It wasn't just hashing against a database (which doesn't protect you against zero day threats and malware variants being produced by the assorted "malware kits" being sold on the web). Webroot was doing those things, but it was also looking at behaviors and using heuristics to decide if applications were performing threatening actions. It was doing it all through a cloud based "web" of clients that can report back suspicious activity to the Webroot early detection systems to instantly warn other clients of newly discovered threats. By leveraging this client feedback it is able to keep the entire Webroot client base much more secure. The end result is spectacular. We've seen a dramatic reduction in infections on our network and when we do get an alert these days it's always just Webroot telling us it just detected a threat, isolated and disabled it before it could spread. It's like having a loyal guard dog on duty who occasionally drops a torn swatch of burglar's pants leg on the front doorstep. GOOD DOG!
