Boulder, CO – November 11, 2010
Webroot, the first Internet security service company, today announced it has opened a research and development (R&D) Center in Linz, Upper Austria. The team of security software engineers in the region will focus on developing next generation cloud security technologies.
"Webroot is making significant investments to become the global leader at delivering security as a service for consumers and businesses," said Gerhard Eschelbeck, Chief Technology Officer at Webroot. "Upper Austria has an internationally well regarded talent pool, and we are looking forward for close collaboration with research centers at Johannes Kepler University Linz and Softwarepark Hagenberg to develop our cloud security innovations."
Webroot currently has engineering operations in the United States and the United Kingdom. By opening its R&D Center in Linz, Webroot plans to leverage the area's highly skilled workforce and technology-friendly environment to expand its cloud security engineering operations.
"We are pleased to see a security leader such as Webroot invest in building a presence in our community," said Viktor Sigl, minister of economic affairs, Upper Austria. "Upper Austria is known globally as a region that fosters technology innovation, and Webroot's presence here is further testament to our strong business environment."
Webroot's current cloud security technology portfolio includes Webroot® Web Security Service, which provides URL and web content filtering, plus protection against Web-based malware threats for on-site and mobile employees; and Webroot Email Security Service, which delivers advanced protection against spam, viruses and data loss. Both solutions are designed to provide businesses with enterprise-class security with better manageability, better value and better protection than on-premise security solutions.
In addition, Webroot introduced its first cloud security product for consumers, Webroot Internet Security Complete, earlier this year. The security suite integrates cloud-based and endpoint threat protection with identity management and secure access to personal files and passwords – anytime, anywhere.
