For just $90, a buyer obtains access to a ransomware variant that\nthey can fully customize in exchange for a 15% service fee on any ransom\npayments received. Higher packages are also available that offer even more\noptions that give the user a full dashboard to monitor their campaign, though\nno ransomware has yet to be distributed from the service.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Android Adware Apps are Increasingly Persistent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Several new apps on the Google Play store have been found to\nbe responsible for constant pop-up ads on over 700,000 devices after being\ninstalled as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/security\/adware-apps-in-google-play-simulate-uninstall-for-persistence\/\">phony\ncamera apps<\/a>. By creating a shortcut on the device and hiding the\nmain icon, the apps are able to stay installed on the device for a considerable\namount of time, as any user trying to remove the app would only delete the\nshortcut. Fortunately, many users have been writing poor reviews about their\nexperiences in hopes of steering prospective users away from these fraudulent\napps while they remain on the store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Phone Scammers Disguising Themselves with DHS Numbers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>People all across the U.S. have been receiving phone calls\nfrom scammers claiming to be from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),\nwith actual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextgov.com\/cybersecurity\/2019\/03\/scammers-are-spoofing-dhs-phone-numbers-get-your-personal-info\/155317\/\">spoofed\nDHS phone numbers<\/a>, requesting sensitive information. While phone\nscams aren\u2019t new, this campaign has upped the stakes by threatening the victims\nwith arrest if they don\u2019t provide information or make a payment to the\nscammers. DHS officials have stated they will never attempt to contact\nindividuals through outgoing phone calls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Failed Ransomware Attack Leaves Thousands of Israeli Sites Defaced<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/ransomware-attack-on-israeli-users-fails-miserably-due-to-coding-error\/\">ransomware\nattack<\/a> aiming to infect millions of Israeli users through a widget\nused in thousands of websites failed over the weekend. Though all sites began\ndisplaying pro-Palestine messages, the intended file download never took place\ndue to a coding error that prevented execution immediately after the pop-up message.\nAfter dealing with the poisoned DNS records for the widget creator Nagich, the\ncompany was able to restore normal function within a few hours of the attack\nbeginning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Chicago Medical Center Exposes Patient Records<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly eight months after a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.govtech.com\/security\/Medical-Center-Data-Leak-May-Have-Exposed-45K-Patients.html\">Rush\nMedical Center<\/a> employee emailed a file containing highly sensitive\npatient information to one of their billing vendors, the company began\ncontacting affected patients and conducting an internal investigation.
