Open Gaming Alliance Welcomes Cybersecurity Leader Webroot to Growing List of Corporate Sponsors

Security Knowledge, Research and Best Business Practices On Point with Growing Game Industry Concerns

BEAVERTON, OR - February 26, 2015

Webroot, The Open Gaming Alliance (OGA), a non-profit association focused on the games industry business, today announced cloud-based cybersecurity company Webroot is its newest corporate Sponsor. Webroot joins a roster of other forward-thinking industry leaders including Intel, Dell/Alienware, Logitech, Plantronics, Razer and the recently announced Unity Technologies in supporting the OGA's efforts to provide leadership and opportunities; and encourage growth and diversity within the games business ecosystem.

The Open Gaming Alliance provides an array of resources to its industry members, ranging from research and best-practice guidance; to marketing support and networking with some of the industry's premier middleware and hardware providers, and publishers. Since its inception in 2008, the organization has evolved to cover multiple platforms and operating systems; maintaining its primary goals of strengthening and promoting the community around all game platforms while providing a unified voice.

"Open Gaming Alliance's dedication and focus towards improving the PC gamer experience, combined with Webroot's security expertise and smarter cybersecurity approach is a perfect match," said Mike Malloy, executive vice president of products and strategy at Webroot. "The combination of Webroot and Open Gaming Alliance will ensure PC gamers and enthusiasts have a unified leadership voice for the industry and are always protected against the latest online threats from the moment they are discovered – anywhere in the world."

OGA's mandates for the year include growing the organization's profile within the industry and building upon its existing Research, Marketing, Software and Security Best Practices, Game Certification and Indie Developer efforts. Additional priorities include several new initiatives, including the OGA Indie Collective, focused on providing more resources and support for independent developers; a new OGA Professional Membership level, created for individual contributors, consultants and service providers; and the OGA Diversity Program, encouraging inclusiveness across all aspects of the industry.

"Cybersecurity is an increasingly important concern for our members, whether they are a large corporation or a small indie developer. Safety for both the end user and company itself are paramount; and the challenge is to stay one step ahead in this rapidly changing sector," said Wanda Meloni, OGA vice president. "We're thrilled to join forces with Webroot. As a thought leader in the security space, they bring their specialized knowledge, research, and best business practices to our industry members."

OGA president and vice president, Drew Johnston and Wanda Meloni, will be on-site at next week's Game Developers Conference to meet with press, members and potential sponsors who wish to learn more about the association and its initiatives. Additional information is available at
