New CTO Tapped to Drive Award-Winning Anti-Spyware company's Overall Product Strategy; Webroot Also Announces New Advanced Development Center in Silicon Valley

BOULDER, CO - January 9, 2006

Webroot Software, Inc., the leading provider of anti-spyware software and other security technologies for the enterprise and consumers, today announced the appointment of renowned network security expert Gerhard Eschelbeck to the position of chief technology officer and senior vice president of engineering.

The company also announced a new Advanced Technology Development Center based in Silicon Valley that will focus on cutting-edge security solutions and services to combat the latest malware threats. The new technology center will work in tandem with Webroot's highly-regarded research and development offices in Boulder, Colorado. Eschelbeck will be responsible for managing and growing the presence of both facilities.

Both announcements demonstrate Webroot's continued leadership in anti-spyware technology and illustrate the company's commitment to combat the increasingly sophisticated spyware threats facing consumers, small and medium-sized businesses and large enterprises.

As CTO and SVP Engineering at Webroot, Eschelbeck will be responsible for developing and driving the company's overall product strategy. He will also manage the talented efforts of Webroot's development and threat research teams, and further expand the capabilities of Webroot's Phileas, the industry's first and only automated spyware research system designed specifically to proactively identify and root out spyware anywhere on the Web.

Widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on vulnerabilities and network security, Eschelbeck has presented his research to the U.S. Congress and at numerous major security conferences including RSA, Black Hat and CSI. He was named one of Infoworld's 25 Most Influential CTO's in 2003 and 2004 and is a frequent contributor to the SANS Top 20 expert consensus identifying the most critical security vulnerabilities. Eschelbeck is also a highly regarded author and is perhaps best known for publishing the "Laws of Vulnerabilities." He is one of the inventors of the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) and holds numerous patents in the field of managed network security.

Eschelbeck most recently served as CTO & vice president of engineering of Qualys, Inc., the leading provider of on demand vulnerability management, where he was pioneering the company's Software as a Service based vulnerability management platform. Prior to joining Qualys, Eschelbeck was senior VP of engineering for security products at Network Associates, VP of engineering of antivirus products at McAfee Associates, and founder of IDS GmbH, a secure remote control company acquired by McAfee. He holds Masters and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Linz, Austria.
