Webroot, the market leader in cloud-based, real-time internet threat detection, today announced updates to Webroot SecureAnywhere® Web Security Service. According to a recent report, corporate, cloud-based security solutions like Webroot are in demand, in part due to the vast proliferation of mobile devices and the increase in the number of employees working remotely. Although network controls are relatively straightforward on-site, a remote workforce complicates corporate security and adds complexity.
The introduction of Webroot SecureAnywhere Web Security Service 5.0 delivers a new proxy engine and agent architecture designed to significantly improve web performance regardless of location. These enhancements allow enterprises to efficiently manage remote and mobile users, in addition to a wide variety of internet-connected devices and operating systems. The Webroot® secure web gateway also includes advanced, real-time anti-phishing, IP and URL reputation services, SSL scanning and other performance features.
"Our cloud-based approach to web filtering is focused on today's advanced internet threats that attack enterprise networks through a combination of different vectors," said Mike Malloy, executive vice president of products and strategy at Webroot. "We bring the full strength of the Webroot Intelligence Network, the most powerful array of security intelligence services in the industry, to enable Webroot SecureAnywhere Web Security Service 5.0 to prevent network-borne malware and empower the enterprise security team to create and enforce internet usage policies. With this version, we are proud to launch the first secure web gateway solution to offer real-time anti-phishing protection."
Full Content Inspection including Support for SSL/HTTPS
Today, up to 35% of enterprise traffic is secured using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. With the rise in use of Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) and with applications, such as Gmail and Facebook, and search engines enabling SSL by default, most enterprises should expect increases in SSL traffic. Cybercriminals know this, and they have begun to use SSL to hide their attacks. Now that malware frequently appears on legitimate websites, Webroot scans encrypted SSL and HTTPS web traffic. This helps protect users from malware hiding in secure traffic, and this permits network administrators to set policies to stop the exfiltration of MS Office documents through encrypted traffic.
Performance Enhancements for Remote Users
Split Tunneling enables the desktop web proxy (DWP) agent to bypass the Webroot® proxy for requests going to popular websites that are on a predefined Split Tunnel list that is maintained by Webroot. Being able to safely bypass the Webroot® proxy is particularly useful for remote or traveling users that want to maintain active web filtering policies on the road but don't want to be forced to connect through the proxy. A local system cache of "good" known sites with a reputation index of 80 or higher is used and constantly validated every four hours to maintain security and user policy adherence. In addition to these performance enhancements, release 5.0 also supports Windows® 8.1, including Metro Apps.
Improved Reporting and Log Scheduling
The near real-time logging of Webroot allows customers to easily assemble the data they need for more complex reporting outside of the management console. This new Log Manager allows administrators to create and save parameterized logs and schedule them for delivery via multiple methods.
Market Highlight and Industry Recognition
With the web security market expected to grow over $2.7 Billion in 2018, Webroot is one of a few purely cloud-based web security providers and offers an easily deployable corporate Web Security solution. Further, Webroot has again been identified as a "Trail Blazer" in the Corporate Web Security – Market Quadrant 2014 report by The Radicati Group. The independent analysis recognizes Webroot SecureAnywhere® Web Security Service for its cloud-based threat detection, predictive threat intelligence and robust content filtering.
